Any H1-X operator is subject to all FAA regulations just like any other aircraft operator, and we are not unique in these restrictions.

Specifically, the FAA mandates that all flights must strictly adhere to Visual Flight Rules (VFR) regulations and local ordinances. Since the H1-X is being designed to qualify as a Light-Sport Aircraft (LSA) under the FAA's new MOSAIC rules, it is subject to the following operating and flight restrictions:

  • Operating Altitude and Corridors: Under the FAA MOSAIC and standard LSA guidelines, the operating ceiling is typically up to 10,000 feet Mean Sea Level (MSL). However, current projections indicate that most flights are expected to take place between 500 and 1,500 feet Above Ground Level (AGL), where specialized air mobility corridors are being established.

  • Separation and Clearance Limits: FAA regulations generally require aircraft operating under VFR to maintain safe separation distances. Specifically, pilots are generally required to fly at least 500 feet away from any person, vessel, vehicle, or structure over non-congested areas, and at least 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle when flying over congested areas.

  • Pilot Certification Requirements: To legally operate the aircraft, you are anticipated to need at least a Sport Pilot Certificate, which is expected to require a minimum of 20 to 25 hours of training. While a valid U.S. driver's license is planned to be usable in lieu of a traditional FAA medical certificate under LSA rules, the certificate itself remains mandatory.

  • Airspace Access: Operations in controlled airspace or near busy airports can be restricted. For example, the H1-X is being designed with ADS-B In/Out technology to communicate with Air Traffic Control (ATC); if an aircraft is operated without a two-way radio, the onboard system is planned to limit flights to airspace where radio-free operation is permitted.

To help pilots fly safely and comply with these rules, the onboard SOUL AI™ Digital Co-Pilot is being developed to enforce compliance through dynamic geofencing. This system is being designed to automatically display restricted "no-fly" zones (such as Temporary Flight Restrictions or Military Operations Areas) and enforce altitude limits, preventing the pilot from planning routes that violate existing airspace rules.
