Traditional helicopters generally rely on a single combustion engine and large, complex open rotors. A failure of the tail rotor or its complex drivetrain can be a catastrophic event in a single-rotor helicopter.
In contrast, our H1-X is being designed with multiple layers of safety and redundancy to offer key advantages over a traditional helicopter:
Multi-Motor Redundancy: The H1-X is being designed with Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP) featuring 10 independent electric motors. Our goal is to safely maintain controlled flight and perform a safe landing even if up to two independent motors fail.
Enclosed Ducted Fans: By enclosing the blades, the design is planned to eliminate the open tail rotor—a common and critical point of failure on traditional helicopters. This patented configuration is also targeted to reduce the noise signature, prevent bird strikes, and enhance ground safety.
Intuitive Controls: The H1-X is being designed to be flown with a single joystick, with complex stability management tasks planned to be handled by our proprietary SOUL AI™ Digital Co-Pilot.
Emergency Parachute: As a standard safety net, the aircraft is expected to feature a whole-airframe ballistic parachute system.
Lower Maintenance: Because the H1-X is fully electric, it is expected to have no need for oil changes, spark plugs, or fuel filters, minimizing potential maintenance-related errors.
